About Toto
Toto was formed in 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro, David Paich (who at the time were also famous studio musicians working with Boz Scaggs) and singer/bassist Bobby Kimball. The group's name was derived from a Latin word that means "all-encompassing" and was determined to explore every style of music.
Toto's third release, Turn Back, was not a success in 1981. However they made amends with their fourth release, Isolation, which contained two songs that were hits including the title track and Roseanna. The album and the tour established them as a brand all over the world.
After a short hiatus, Toto returns with the album Fahrenheit. It marks a step away from the ballads of their previous albums and features some heavy rock. The album was their first to be certified platinum in North America.
In the course of recording the band's fifth album, the band loses their manager and is faced with financial difficulties. The next year, Toto toured together with Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band. This was the last time all of Toto's original members were on stage at once. The group broke up after this. However, Toto reunited in 2010 to benefit the ALS Foundation. It was the first time in 31 years that all of Toto's founding members were on stage together. The original Toto members were joined by keyboardist Greg Tambu who filled in for Paich, and bassist David Hungate who filled in for Shem von Schroeck.

In 2002 the drummer Greg Phillinganes left the group and keyboardist David Paich took a leave of absence due to health issues. Drummer Shem von Schroeck took over however the group was not the same without Paich and Phillinganes. In 2008, Toto decided to take a break from touring after changes to the lineup and a series of disappointing releases. The group returned to touring in 2012 following the release of the album 40 Trips Around The Sun.
The album marked a return to form for the group and the tour supported it with sold-out shows in North America and Europe. The reunion of Toto gathered momentum after the return of bassist Shem Von Schroeck and guitarist Steve Lukather.
